X ‐ ray emission in the Outer Galaxy : the Star Forming Region NGC 1893

چکیده

A key issue of the star formation process is its independence from the environmental conditions. In particular, it is not clear whether star formation in the outer Galaxy occurs in the same way as in the inner Galaxy. We present preliminary results of the analysis of a ∼ 440Ks ACISChandra observation of NGC1893, a young cluster (∼ 3−4Myrs), far away from the Galactic Center with the aim to study star formation in the outer region of the Galaxy and investigate the coronal properties of the cluster stars. We detect more than 1000 X-ray sources, most of which are likely cluster members. We present also a preliminary analysis of X-ray variability of the cluster stars.

Star formation in the outer Galaxy: coronal properties of NGC 1893⋆

Context. The outer Galaxy, where the environmental conditions are different from the solar neighborhood, is a laboratory in which it is possible to investigate the dependence of star formation process on the environmental parameters. Aims. We investigate the X-ray properties of NGC 1893, a young cluster (∼1–2 Myr) in the outer part of the Galaxy (galactic radius ≥11 kpc) where we expect differe...

Circumstellar disks in the outer Galaxy: the star-forming region NGC1893

Context. It is still debated whether star formation process depends on environment. In particular it is yet unclear whether star formation in the outer Galaxy, where the environmental conditions are, theoretically, less conducive, occurs in the same way as in the inner Galaxy. Aims. We investigate the population of NGC 1893, a young cluster (∼3−4 Myr) in the outer part of the Galaxy (RG ≥ 11 kp...

Hot Interstellar Gas in the Irregular Galaxy NGC 4449 1 Dominik

NGC 4449 is an irregular galaxy with a moderately high star formation activity. The massive stars in NGC 4449 have given rise to many bright HII regions, superbubbles, supergiant shells, and “chimney-like” radial filaments. ROSAT X-ray observations of NGC 4449 have revealed four point-like sources and a wide-spread diffuse emission. The spectral properties of the diffuse component suggest that ...

The 0.3–30 Kev Spectra of Powerful Starburst Galaxies: Nustar and Chandra Observations of Ngc

We present nearly simultaneous Chandra and NuSTAR observations of two actively star-forming galaxies within 50 Mpc: NGC 3256 and NGC 3310. Both galaxies are significantly detected by both Chandra and NuSTAR, which together provide the first-ever spectra of these two galaxies spanning 0.3–30 keV. The X-ray emission from both galaxies is spatially resolved by Chandra; we find that hot gas dominat...

Chandra Observations of the Galactic Center and Nearby Edge-on Galaxies

I review our recent Chandra surveys of the center region of the Milky Way and other nearby edge-on galaxies. Our Galactic center survey, consisting of 30 overlapping pointings, provides an unprecedented high-resolution, broadband X-ray view of a 0.8x2 square degree swath along the Galactic plane. This X-ray panorama allows a separation of the discrete source and diffuse X-ray components. Our pr...
